Idleness

Inactivity leads to poverty; wealth is a product of diligence. An idle mind yields no return on investment. Idleness, characterized by the inability to work, lack of creativity, disengagement from occupation or employment, indolence, and a sense of uselessness, worthlessness, thoughtlessness, and vanity, is a sure path to stagnation. Laziness and idleness are inseparable companions.

Why dig a pit of doom for yourself? Poverty is unpalatable, and idleness won’t pay the bills. Failing to create and act will inevitably lead to lack. It is better to have a modest intellect that is well-utilized than a powerful one that remains idle.

As Bryant McGill wisely noted, creativity without work is fruitless, and a good strategy without implementation is irrelevant. Don’t just voice ideas that you cannot bring to life. Never be timid; the results you achieve from trying may not always be encouraging. Your best efforts must endure the fires of life—criticism, setbacks, repeated attempts, and the feeling of not being good enough. Doors may close, and you may face regrets, frustration, depression, and anxiety, but never succumb to defeat. In rejection, increase your determination; move forward persistently. Success is the result of consistency; smooth sailing never brings out the best in you.

Idleness is contagious, so steer clear of lazy minds. Take that common idea and fuel it with action today, and you’ll be amazed at the opportunities that unfold. Create your own reality—wishes alone don’t accomplish anything. Be informed, for time respects no one, and life is not a bed of roses.
